One particular issue with this film is the script. There’s nothing wrong with these ingredients for a horror film, but when you bring nothing new to the table, it just becomes another generic “horror” movie. We have a relatively young cast, a dark atmosphere, and a supernatural bad guy. I wouldn’t consider Slender Man a mess, but it’s most definitely a dud.
Oh, and your friendly neighborhood Slender Man appears. When one of the girls disappears under mysterious circumstances, the remaining three are consumed by a supernatural nightmare of which none are likely to escape.

Wren, who has researched Slender Man mythology, warns Hallie and Chloe not to open their eyes while the three are making contact with the Slender Man for fear of death or madness. The three girls decide to make contact with the Slender Man in an attempt to get Katie back in exchange for something else. The three discover that Katie had been involved in the occult and that she wanted the Slender Man to take her. A week later, Katie disappears and the other three girls go to her house to investigate for clues. In a small town in Massachusetts, four friends, Wren ( Joey King), Hallie ( Julia Goldani Telles), Chloe ( Jaz Sinclair) and Katie ( Annalise Basso) summon the Slender Man ( Javier Botet).
